Google is bringing a wave of creativity to your camera roll.

In a new update to Google Photos — used by more than 1.5 billion people worldwide — the app will now let users turn still images into short videos and remix photos into visual styles like anime, sketches, or 3D. These new tools are powered by Google’s latest AI models and will roll out to Android and iOS users in the U.S. over the coming weeks.

What's New?

The biggest changes live under a new “Create” tab in the Google Photos app. This section centralizes all creative tools — both classic and AI-powered — in one place. Two brand-new AI tools debut here:

1. Photo to Video

Upload a photo → choose a motion style (“Subtle movements” or “I’m feeling lucky”) → get a 6-second AI-generated video clip.
It’s powered by Google’s Veo 2 model — the same tech behind recent YouTube Shorts experiments.

2. Remix

Pick any photo → transform it into a new aesthetic in seconds. Options include anime, comic book, 3D renderings, and other stylized formats, thanks to Google’s Imagen AI model.

A Few More Things to Note

  • All generated content will include SynthID, Google’s invisible watermarking system to signal the content was AI-made.
  • Videos will also feature visible watermarks, just like those from Gemini.
  • These tools are experimental — users can leave thumbs-up or thumbs-down to help improve results.
  • The Create tab will launch in the U.S. in August, with more features to follow.
